At North Carolina Esports Academy, our mission is to revolutionize esports by providing youth with enriching experiences that foster character development, technical skills, and enjoyment. Earlier this year, we collaborated with Karin Johnson, co-founder of Magic Potion Games and a seasoned developer with experience at Disney and Epic Games, to test their new game, Imagine Island.
Recognizing the educational value, we organized sessions during a teacher workday and a field trip, allowing our campers to delve into game development, test the game, and offer feedback. This unique opportunity aligns with our commitment to combining gaming with education, offering experiences that youth rarely encounter.
About Imagine Island by Magic Potion Games:
Imagine Island is a safe, magical virtual world designed for the next generation of gamers, providing a trusted environment where kids can be themselves. The team behind Magic Potion Games boasts extensive experience from renowned companies like Epic Games (Fortnite), Disney (Club Penguin), Ubisoft, Bethesda (now part of Microsoft), and Bungie (Halo), ensuring a high-quality, engaging experience for young players.
This collaboration exemplifies our vision to be a beacon of excellence, education, and empowerment across North Carolina, as we continue to integrate innovative gaming experiences into our programs.
In the afternoon, educators explored Epic Games-Based Learning with LEGO Fortnite. This session focused on how to leverage popular games like Fortnite to create interactive and educational experiences for students. The response from educators was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing enthusiasm about incorporating these tools and methods into their curriculum.
