Model of making the league free and trying to get sponsorships, offer coaching, or sell curriculum. I won’t mention any names, but all the organizations who have attempted this have failed.
The reason is that the schools don’t want to pay because they don’t pay for sports since those are funded by taxpayers. Sometimes esports leagues are funded by tax players which ultimately ends in a disaster. The reason is the people funding want more than esports and the solutions is always STEM which no kids want. This ultimately results in the organization losing funding and the league being disbanded.
Money is made in club/travel activities. Rarely in school activities. There are some scholastic leagues that charge that have found success. At the end of the day in youth activities, the money is made from volume. If the average profit per child is $200 per year then the more kids you have the more money you make and more leverage for sponsorships. Esports has not reached that level due to infancy and lack of interest.
We found an alternative that I’m confident will have success. Stay tuned for more details.
