Esports is great for building social skills. We have experienced it first hand at North Carolina Esports Academy at our physical location and online through discord. We will show you how social skills are built at all 3 of our key offerings:
1. Camps
In addition to being in an area with other kids their age with like-minded interests, our camps are STEM based and campers are put in groups to work on a lesson. This promoted teamwork, communication, and collaboration. In addition to basic socializing they are learning how to work with other individuals which is a crucial life skill. Often the campers bicker and argue with each other which gives our staff the opportunity to team then how to get along and complete the projects.
2. Birthday Parties
Often kids play video games with their friends online, but rarely get the opportunity to do so in person. There is a clear reason for this. When I was younger sports games like Madden, NBA2K, FIFA (now EA FC) were the modt popular and we could all go to one person’s house. Now the games are online based like Fortnite, Minecraft and Roblox do unless someone has multiple PCs then there is no way they can all play together. Our physical location fixes that problem and allows them to come and play together.
3. Youth Teams
Our youth teams are similar to the last two. The main difference is the level of competitiveness. High level players want to compete and do well, but they need a teammate of similar skill level. We solve that problem because players tryout and we match them with players of similar skill and they compete in different leagues. They also will play with each other outside of practice. Not only their teammates, but other players on our roster as well. They often communicate on discord about practicing and enter tournaments together. This adds an added benefit of social skills because they are working to make each other better and reach a higher level that they aspire.
