February 2024 marked a milestone for the North Carolina Esports Academy, as we joined forces with EdTech Unite for the unforgettable NSBE Jr. x EdTech Unite event. Thanks to Red Hat’s generous hosting, participants embarked on a journey through the realms of technology, education, and esports.
A Day of Exploration and Discovery
The event, a fusion of learning, networking, and gaming, was made possible through the collaboration with our sister nonprofit, EdTech Unite. Attendees were treated to an array of tech lessons, panels, and tournaments that highlighted the importance of STEM in today’s world.
Empowering the Next Generation through STEM Workshops
Sponsored by Toshiba, the tech lessons featured a Roblox video game design course, a 3D printing workshop by Stemarga, and a health and wellness lesson. These workshops provided a hands-on experience with cutting-edge STEM technologies, nurturing the skills necessary for future innovation.
Insightful Discussions on Esports and Education
Two tech panels, sponsored by the Greater Raleigh Esports Local Organizing Committee and Celtio, delved into critical topics: the role of esports in colleges and the intersection of innovation, tech, and education. Esteemed panelists from Red Hat, Michael Best, Cisco, EdMotion Learning, Charter (Spectrum), and NC A&T shared their insights, fostering a deeper understanding of these evolving fields.
Celebrating Esports: Gaming Tournaments Engage and Excite
The day concluded with gaming tournaments featuring Fortnite, Minecraft, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and Mario Kart, showcasing esports talent among attendees.
Overwhelming Support and Positive Feedback
The event not only demonstrated the potential of merging esports with education but also received overwhelming praise from youth, parents, sponsors, and partners. The positive feedback underscores the impact of such initiatives in empowering young minds and shaping the future of STEM and esports.
